WYKE 4 Vs YMCA 1
If ever a result didn't
reflect the scoreline this was it. YMCA
battered their opponents from 1st to
last whistle but came away without any
points. The lads were superb going
forward breaking down Wyke at every
opportunity but simply couldn't score.
Two breakaways gave Wyke a 2-0 lead at
halftime and only an outstanding
goalkeeping performance from the Wyke
keeper kept them in it. Robshaw, Walker,
Hughes & Pettinger had could
opportunities to have the game tied up
at half time but didn't. In the 2nd half
the same pattern was clearly evident but
YM couldn't take their chances again the
keeper kept them in the game with save
after save. YM continues to press but
couldn't find a way through to bring a
fantastic season to the end.
Brilliant treble season Well
done lads

HEPWORTH 0 vs YMCA 4
YM saved one of their best displays
until the end of the season to complete
a fantastic treble. Every player had a
superb game from back to front the lads
looked strong playing their trademark
passing game against Hepworth. Another
tough game looked on the cards at the
start but YM quickly got to grips with
their opponents and attacked at will.
The back three yet again looked strong
with the midfield creating chances
galore and had it not been for a
magnicant performance from Hepworth
keeper Moorhouse the lads would have won
even more convincingly. Upfront YM were
potent.
Brilliant lads we
are so proud of you
DEWSBURY RANGERS 0 Vs
YMCA "A" 3
A
second meeting in 7 days between the two
teams brought the exact same outcome. YM
controlled the game from the start
attacking with pace and flair. In
defence the lads looked solid with the
inclusion of Luke who yet again had
another assured game and whose
confidence grows each time he plays.
George handled superbly well after
comments from opposing parents on
Sunday. Ben, Harry & Joe were simply
superb in a four man defence. Elliott
tormented the fullback turning inside &
out and with Jake & James in the centre
YM tore apart the home defence with some
exquisite passing. Kyle had yet another
brilliant game on the left maybe not
through flair we have come to expect but
his work rate in covering was
exceptional. Niall & Tom started upfront
with both working their socks off and
both looking confident with the latter
finding good space behind the tireless
Maguire. Marley & Jake R changed at
halftime with Tom & Niall and this
brought only more problems for
Dewsbury's defence with both linking
well to create endless chances for each
other.
Another Superb performance Keep it up

MINORS CUP FINAL
YMCA "A" 1 Vs LEPTON 0
Should have been wrapped up by half time
apparently
YMCA 4 Vs CLIFTON 1
A
second game in three days brought a
mixed performance yet a solid battling
performance against a Clifton side who
get better every time we play them.
Following on from double figure
scorelines in the past Clifton were in
no mood to allow this to happen again.
Playing down the slope on a wet sticky
pitch YM were very quickly into their
stride passing their way through the
Rangers defence. Excellent movement an
passing made the game look as though it
would be a formality. After 10 minutes
YM scored a great goal from Aidan after
smart work from Kyle. YM were then
awarded a penalty this could and should
have put the game to bed but the usual
ice cool Robshaw allowed the keeper to
save it. This kick started the Rangers
team and thy put pressure on the lads
and from a corner George was helpless as
a Clifton player scored with a close
range header. At half time YM changed
personnel with Walker and Marley
changing with Hughes and Robshaw. This
gave YM more pace and they started to
create more chances but none were taken
and the longer the game went on the more
a 1-1 scoreline looked possible. Niall
then capped another excellent
performance with a close range goal
which then opened the floodgates and
goals from Walker and James completed
the scoring with YM eventually running
out worthy winners but not after a few
frights. Good passing and movement was
always going to be the key and YM proved
that when they did these things the game
was made simple.
A
solid performance in the YM's bid for
the treble
YMCA 3 Vs HEPWORTH 1
Following Sunday's drab game YM needed
to bounce back against 3rd placed
Hepworth and boy did they bounce!
Playing down hill first YM started
slowly similar to the game on Sunday
passing poorly and giving too much time
to their opponents but then came the
transformation and a transformation that
Hepworth could not deal with. In goals
George had to be quick of his line to
deal with danger when the visitors
pushed forward but handled well and
distributed the ball well until the 12th
minute when then ball was played through
the defence for the Hepworth striker to
run on to but as George collected the
ball it was knocked out of his hands and
the lads were one down. In the past the
lads might have panicked and let their
heads go down but not this time. Joe was
back to his best, Ben drove his team on
as a captain should do and Harry covered
brilliantly and passed the ball the best
he has done all season. James was back
in the whole in front of the defence and
he was simply brilliant and was only
out done for the MOM award by the
brilliant Lodgy. He tackled,
headed and passed his way through a very
tough game. Jake R started on the
right and was more than a capable deputy
for the missing Walker as he tormented
the Hepworth full back time after time
and not only that he ran his socks off
in helping cover Joe. Jake L and Dunny
quickly got to grips with the midfield
and were brilliant with Jake scoring one
of the goals of the season from a fully
25 yards curling into the top corner.
Little Tom Dunne stepping up from the B
team was quick into the tackle and
supported the forwards at every
opportunity. Kyle was simply superb on
the left with jinking runs great layoffs
and superb runs down the wing. Marley
looked tired up front after his school
trip but still posed a significant
threat with his pace and power but the
late nights away took their toll after
20 minutes but he will no doubt play a
big part in the run in for the league.
Tom was magnificent. His movement , his
passing and his work rate were out of
this world and reward for this, two
great gaols. Niall responded to his team
talk before their match by playing his
best game for many many months never
giving time for his opponents to play
what a response!! Luke looked assured
and confident after stepping up from the
B team and with time will settle into
the 1st team I am sure. Aidan started on
the bench but when he came on boy did he
come on. He was everywhere tackling,
crossing, covering and giving a far more
positive game to his team mates.
A
superb match against our old enemy was
watched by a large crowd but a superb
team performance ensured that the lads
march on!!!
MOM: Jake L closely followed by too many
others to mention. BRILLIANT BOYS KEEP
IT UP
MINORS CUP SEMI FINAL
YORKSHIRE LIONS 1 Vs YMCA 2
A
battling if very unspectacular
performance on a pitch that was to say
the least POOR gave the lads a 2nd cup
final appearance. Starting brightly and
sharp YM quickly took control of the
game but found it difficult to break
down the Lions defence which was packed
with players.
In
goals George was almost a spectator but
cleared and distributed well when called
upon. In defence YM looked unsure and
constantly gave the ball away with poor
passing and communication. The midfield
four of Elliott who ran the fullback
ragged and looked the main threat with
his hard work but was let down by poor
finishing from almost everyone, Jake who
had another solid game and tackled hard
tried to push the team on but he too was
guilty of poor passing at times and not
making use of the width on the pitch.
James had a rare of day and was also too
guilty of holding onto the ball too long
instead of making use of the wide
players. Aidan was another who had a
rare of day and could not make in roads
into the Lions defence but when he did
he looked strong. Tom started in the
whole behind the two strikers and for
the first 10 minutes looked at home
picking passes for the forwards but a
lack of movement from forwards made his
job very difficult. Tom Dunne and Niall
started upfront but both lacked
composure and were guilty of playing out
of position. The introduction of Jake R,
Kyle & Marley brought a spark with Jake
having a very good game being a constant
threat down the wing and through the
centre . Marley's pace yet again
threatened but this was spoilt by poor
touch and being greedy. Kyle showed
glimpses of the skills we associate with
him but he too failed to take charge of
the game.
In
the 2nd half YM took charge of the game
and being camped in the Lions half began
to wear them down but a catalogue of
missed chances looked like it could
prove costly when Lions scrambled a goal
to bring the game to 2-1 to YM. YM
continued to dominate but a bobbly pitch
certainly didn't help our cause and
eventually brought us out disserved
winners and a 2nd final appearance this
time against Lepton Highlanders at YMCA
on April 20th 2pm.
YM
will have to sharpen up their passing
however for Friday's game against
Hepworth if they want to keep up the
treble hopes!!!

DRIGHLINGTON 4 Vs YMCA B 2
Last game of the season and a chance of
promotion so everyone was nervous as the
game kicked off. A cagey start on a
large pitch with the back three Lucas,
Luke & Jordan keeping Drighlington at
bay, midfield working hard to control
the game with Joe & Baz battling hard.
Both teams were scrappy for the first
ten minutes then
Drighlington
broke away on the left, and slotted the
ball away for the first goal.
One nil down and work to do, the team
battled on with Johnny & Dom giving us
the width sending balls into the box
where Liam & Tom were waiting only to be
frustrated when the ball wouldn’t go in,
then YM broke away with Jordon passing
the ball out to Joe dribbling through
the midfield then onto Johnny, Johnny
then broke the Drig back line and sent a
great cross in for Liam who brought the
ball down brilliantly and volleyed home
the equalizer, mums & dads had new hope.
Drighlington then seemed to get the
better when they had us camped down in
our own half, but great defending kept
them out. And some great saves by Alex.
A throw in down the left-hand side
caught us napping and they score down
Alex’s left, 2 1 down ten mins left in
the first half Lucas broke down the left
passing the ball through where Tom beat
the outside trap and goalie running out
Tom coolly slotted home. We were back in
it and just before half time we
scrambled a goal only to be flagged off
side so the half finished 2 2 with all
to play.
Colin encouraged all the lads up for the
second half with all three subs used
Joel, Niall & Jack all fired up and all
to play for, the half started with us
holding the ball and making some changes
but Drig held on and a goal mouth
scrabble with Luke clearing the ball out
to Joel where he passed a lovely ball up
to Niall where he held the ball up
brilliantly holding the defence off
passed a great ball out wide for Jack
who was flying down the wing into the
box and a great strike hit the post,
hard luck boys.
Drig then seemed to have the luck on
they side and grow in confidence passing
the ball about their no 9 scored the
goal of the game with a strike that
would of beaten any keeper 3 2 down
Colin through on the last throw of the
dice Joe, Dom & Charley ready for action
then we look like scoring with Charley
and Dom dribbling & breaking through
only for Baz to shoot just wide. Time
was running out, and out of the blue
there no 9 killed us off.4 2 the final
score hard luck boy.
Colin rounded the boys up and
congratulated a great season, with all
player giving there all. Roll on next
season.

YMCA WIN 4-3 on Penalties-
WORTHY OF A FINAL
A brilliant
advert for junior football was on show
at the YM on Sunday. A game which has
been postponed on numerous occasions was
played between two totally committed yet
extremely friendly teams. Both teams
started strongly with YM making the 1st
clear cut opening when Marley went
through on goal only to take a touch too
many. Hepworth attacked but the defence
of George, Joe, Ben & Harry stood firm.
It was obvious the game would remain
tight throughout and at 0-0 at full time
extra time was required. Both teams
tired but continued to attack throwing
caution to the wind. Hepworth scored 1st
extra time but YM were not going to give
up and deserved equaliser. Again
Hepworth scored but YM again showed
resilience scoring their second
sending the tie into penalties. The rest
is history.
In my
opinion no team friend or foe should
ever lose a game like that.
In goal
George was alert and distributed the
ball quickly and well and only had a few
scary moments. Joe had a superb game
running James & Jake very close for the
man of the match. Ben was a colossus in
defence never missing a tackle. Harry
covered brilliantly when required and
passed the ball far better than in
recent games. Missing the influential
Fraser James dropped into the hole and
filled the position breaking up play and
passing the ball superbly well and also
went close on a couple of occasions from
long range. Elliott was bright and sharp
down the wing but too often came up
against two defenders. The new pairing
in the centre of Jake & Aidan battled
all the game never giving their
opponents time to pass the ball. Kyle
started on the wing and covered lots of
ground helping protect Harry at full
back. Marley and Tom started up front
but both found the Hepworth in defiant
mood but both linked well and caused the
visitors problems. The introduction of
Niall and Jake freshened up the attack
both working hard with the former making
a superb pass (YES PASS!!!) for Marley
to score. Jake moved to the right wing
and again looked sharp making chances
for the front players.
A brilliant
game from both teams and below is an
email from Hepworth manager Nick Kennett
Dear All,
Just a quick
email to thank all the boys for
their efforts today.......
I am sure you would all like
join me in congratulating all the
boys Hepworth and YMCA for a
terrific performance and a great
mornings entertainment.
All though I feel we
where unlucky in the penalty shoot
out, I think everyone must agree
that both sets of players, teams and
junior football where the real
winners, as nobody really deserved
to loose this match,
I am personally very proud
as I am sure John Pettinger IS off
all the boys, playing in what we can
only be described as a closely
fought and competitive match,
In the best spirit of
sportmanship. John has phoned me
this afternoon to congratulate not
only the boys for an excellent
performance but also all our parents
who supported and applauded both
teams so a big thank you to all
I am sure everyone
concerned with Hepworth Utd would
like to thank the YMCA for there
great hospitality and sportsmanship
wishing them best of luck in the
Cup.....
BUT CANT WAIT TO GET OUR OWN
BACK IN THE LEAGUE
Thanks
again
Nick
My sentiments exactly
except for the last bit!!!
YMCA "B" 3 Vs DALTON DYNAMOES 1
Another tight game expected
with our lads looking for a
hat trick of clean sheets
and Dalton going for the
double over us.
The outcome of this match
could go a long way to
deciding which team would
take the final promotion
place as both these teams
were still in with a shout.
YM played down hill in the
first half with a healthy
half time lead the
objective. We started where
we had left off the previous
game putting Dalton on the
back foot from the
kickoff.
A good break down the left
by Johnny resulted in
Baz
breaking through the middle
but a strong tackle from a
Dalton defender prevented
him getting a shot off.
We didn’t have to wait long
though for a breakthrough –
Liam was released down the
middle when the Dalton
defence pushed too far up
and his pace put him clear.
His first shot was saved by
the keeper but he smacked
the rebound in to take the
lead.
1-0 after 4mins.
YM continued to do all the
attacking with good play
down both wings from Johnny
and Joe – winning a string
of corners to the obvious
dislike of the Dalton
coaching team!
Another break down the left
was cleared by their keeper
from the edge of his area –
but the clearance fell to
Dom
who’s long range shot
did not have enough power
and the keeper scrambled
back.
Dalton won their first
corner after 15 minutes
which was very well defended
and the clearance found
Baz
with acres of space to run
into. He looked up and
played a superb ball down
the left wing which Johnny
dribbled into the area, drew
the keeper off his line and
calmly slotted the ball past
him for 2-0 15
mins.
A rare mistake by the ‘Rock’
Luke in our defence (who had
a bit more pressure on him
as he was playing against
his old team) put their
centre forward through but
his shot did not trouble
Alex in goal.
Dalton
were starting to get
more and more into the game
with good runs at our
defence but without the end
product of a shot on goal.
The Boss made a change after
25 minutes bringing on Niall
for Dom.
One minute later and Alex
had his first shot to save
and what a save it was! He
was not going to be beaten
easily today.
Straight after this fine
save we broke down the left
again and that man Johnny
was through on goal again to
coolly slot his shot into
the bottom left hand corner
for 3-0 after 29 minutes.
Half time 3-0.
The half time
scoreline does not
reflect how close the game
is with Dalton looking
dangerous on the break
without really troubling
Alex in goal – bit like a
tiger on the hunt
who
had left his dentures at
home soaking in a glass.
The Boss made a change at
half time with livewire Jack
coming on for Joe and Johnny
switching to the right wing.
A great move up the left
wing by Lucas and Jack put
Liam through but the ‘hitman’
held on to the ball too long
when the pass out wide to
Johnny was on.
Dalton continued to attack
our defence but although the
‘rock’ Luke was showing
signs of crumbling his
defensive team mates came to
the rescue with Joel, Lucas
and especially Jordan
holding firm.
A fantastic run by the
Dalton left winger beat two
men and let fly with a great
shot but Alex was on hand to
pull off another great save
to keep the score at 3-0
after 40 minutes.
Finally our defence was
breached with a dangerous
ball across our goal mouth
which was cracked in for 3-1
after 47 minutes.
Joe came on for Johnny and
the YM pushed on for another
goal with a good move down
the left involving Tom, Jack
and Dom resulting in the
latter putting a cross in
which their keeper almost
pushed into his own net!
Even though we were playing
up hill we were now doing
most of the attacking using
our width again much to the
anger of the Dalton coach!
Dalton were still creating
very good chances but still
failing to trouble Alex but
with 2 minutes to go a break
down the left and what’s
this a
Dalton shot on target?!
Oh no Alex fumbled it and
the ball ran to Dalton’s
centre forward with Alex on
the floor and the goal
gaping he somehow managed to
put his shot past the post!
The referee put poor
‘trigger’ out of their
misery and blew the final
whistle for a fantastic 3-1
victory for the lads which
after Batley contrived to
lose to
Battyeford meant we
can still win promotion if
we beat
Drighlington in our
last match!!!
YMCA man of the match was
Johnny with his two coolly
taken goals – that lad has a
fine set of
gnashers.
YMCA "A" 1 Vs HOWDEN CLOUGH "A" 0
Cup
Semi-final
A
hardworking if unspectacular performance
against div 2 side Howden Clough ensured
a first cup final appearance at 11 aside
football. Playing on a huge pitch which
both coaches agreed was way too big for
10/11 year olds YM attacked constantly
creating chance after chance but were
thwarted by good goalkeeping and mad
scrambles. Fraser went close on 3
occasions from good crosses, heading
over on each occasion. Aidan had a
fantastic game on the right week and
tormented the Howden Clough full back
every time he got the ball.
George again
had a quiet game but distributed the
ball well. In defence Joe, Ben & Harry
looked very solid and only had a few
scares in the game. Fraser was excellent
in front of the defence but he like
others was guilty of holding onto the
ball too long. James & Jake L quickly
got to grips with their opponents
midfield and played some good passes to
the wingers with the former having an
excellent shot well saved. Kyle started
quietly but when he returned to the game
in the 2nd half was brilliant linking
well with Harry and the front men down
the left. Jake R playing upfront with
Marley had some good touches but looked
far happier on the wing where he worked
hard for his team mates. Tom, Marley &
Niall all ran the Clough defence ragged
with Tom playing some neat little flicks
for his colleagues. Niall worked
tirelessly and Marley scored a gem of a
goal curling the ball into the top
corner of the net.
Elliott on
his return after a long break started
slowly but was soon into his stride
jinking his way through the Clough
defence at will and creating good
chances.
MOM Fraser &
Aidan
Comment: A
solid performance but we were guilty of
holding onto the ball too long and
giving it away to easily.
YMCA "B" 8 vs BATTYEFORD "B" 0
A tight game expected after
Battyeford
surprisingly beat the league
leaders and the YMCA
recorded their first clean
sheet of the season the
previous week.
From the first whistle YM
made their intentions clear
with short neat passing
between our midfield and
forwards opened
Battyeford up down
the middle which resulted in
Tom Hughes having the first
shot on goal.
Battyeford
had a big lad in goals
whom
at first glance looked like
Tom Dunn’s dad…and his
handling was good catching
crosses and long range
shots. He also had a big
kick on him and with the
assistance of the wind
caught our defence out – but
lucky for us ‘the rock’ Luke
was on hand to clear the
danger.
For once the lads listened
to the Boss Colin and
started to play the ball
down both wings which opened
up
Battyeford with both
Lucas and Joel feeding CJ
and Joe who linked up well
with Tom Hughes and Liam up
front.
Battyeford
were well and truly on the
back foot and very rarely
got into our half and they
were playing with the wind!
With the score still 0-0
after 20 minutes the Boss
made three changes bringing
off Liam, Joel & Dom to be
replaced with Tom Dunne,
Jack & Elliott and the
breakthrough came
immediately!
A good passing move down the
left put Tom Hughes through
who pulled the ball back to
the far post where Joe was
there to slot the opener in.
With the YM continuing to
play fast flowing football
down both wings Joe was
upended for a
freekick 20 yards out
on the right. Up stepped
Baz
who hit a
belter
that soared into the top
left hand corner.
2-0 22
mins.
Good battling by Tom Dunne
in the middle of the park
put Tom Hughes through who
calmly waited for ‘Terry
Dunne’ to dive before
lifting his shot over him
for 3-0.
26 mins.
Half Time 3-0.
Don’t really know how good
Battyeford are as
they hardly had a kick in
that half! Great stuff from
the lads one and all.
The only disappointment was
our Compo look-a-like
linesman with curly top and
wellies
to boot who spent most of
the time dancing up and down
our right wing 5 yards on
the pitch! You don’t see
that in the Premiership!!
The Boss made more changes
at the start of the second
half with Liam, Joel and Dom
back on replacing CJ,
Elliott and Tom Hughes.
We continued where we had
left off with Jordan
releasing
Baz
down the right who fed Joe
who was having a blinder
–but this time his shot was
just wide.
Not to be outdone Luke
released Dom down the left
who put Liam through. His
pull back was begging to be
dispatched into the net but
Joe just failed to connect.
Liam was put through again
but unusually for ‘the
hitman’
he ran the ball too far and
the keeper pounced.
20 minutes into the second
half and a superb piece of
skill by Tom Dunne brought
our fourth goal. A high ball
was played to the edge of
their area and Tom knocked
it over his head, turned
around and smashed it past
‘his dad’.
4-0 40
mins.
Straight from the
kick
off
Baz
won the ball back ran
through the middle and hit
an unstoppable shot from the
edge of the box for 5-0 41
mins.
Tom Dunne came off and Tom
Hughes was back on. We were
now totally camped in
Battyeford’s half –
but what’s this?! A
Battyeford Attack!
Alex who had been a
spectator until now came out
and dived bravely at the
attackers feet to
save the day.
We won another free kick
this time 20 yards out on
the left. Dom decided what
Baz
could do in the first half
he could do – and fired a
beauty into the top right
hand corner!
6-0 50
mins.
Joe came off to a standing
ovation as it was clear to
everyone that he was the Man
of the Match. CJ came on
with 6 minutes to go.
A good throw by Lucas found
Liam in space on the edge of
their box and a neat pass
put Dom in to score low to
the
keepers right.
7-0 58
mins.
CJ then came off injured and
Tom Dunne returned for the
last minute but we were not
finished yet! Another great
move down the left put Dom
through who pulled it back
to Tom Hughes who’s first
shot was well saved by
‘Terry’ but he was on hand
to smack the rebound in to
make the final score 8-0
One of the best performances
of the season and another
clean sheet!
Brilliant.
Colin – sort your linesman
out – he looked like he had
slept in a hedge!
YMCA "A" 3 Vs GLEN JUNIORS 0 - CUP
A
magnificent team performance made sure
the lads progress to the semi
final and a meeting with Howden Cough in
two weeks time. George had little to do
but when called upon produced a good
save and good distribution. In defence
Joe, Ben & Harry were excellent only
having a few hairy moments but covered
for each other like seasoned
professionals. Fraser had yet another
solid performance in the hole covering
his midfield and also scoring a deserved
goal and should have been two but for
the ref disallowing a well taken free
kick. In midfield Jake R looked back to
something like his best for most of the
first half creating good crosses for the
forwards. In the centre James & Jake
were brilliant cancelling out Glen's
strong midfield and driving the team
forward. On the left Kyle again started
strong and worked tirelessly covering
Harry. Tom and Marley started upfront
and looked bright and dangerous with the
latter going close on numerous
occasions. Niall and Aidan came on for
Tom and Kyle and tormented Glen's
defence with good support play and
strong running.
In
the 2nd half YM took control and could
have scored more had it not been for an
excellent display in goals from the
visitors keeper. Tom and Kyle went back
on for Kyle and Marley and continued to
pose problems for Glen. With superb
delivery from corners YM looked strong
in attack and with excellent covering in
defence looked solid but in midfield
they were brilliant and this is where
the game was won.
MOM: James P closely followed by
everyone else
Scorers: Fraser, Niall & Jake L
HEPWORTH B 0 YMCA "B" 5
After a request by Hepworth to play at
YM, it was always going to be tough for
them considering this was supposed to be
a home fixture! However, despite being
soundly beaten earlier in the season
Hepworth looked like they had come to
win this time. This showed in the first
part of the first half, with much of the
play being in the midfield. However, YM
always looked the more threatening with
some silky passes and runs.
The YM team looked much better than the
prior week, with more enthusiasm and
more intelligent play. From the back
Alex was relatively quiet all game, but
showed safe hands and improved kicking
when called upon. The defensive line was
strong again with Lucas back to his best
down the left, showing some good
interchanging play with CJ. Luke in the
centre was typically brilliant, and
showed some great touches and solid
defending. That rightly earned him Man
of the Match, and was unlucky to get
injured before the final whistle. Jordan
has a good game too, with some important
challenges and clearances. Joel down the
right played well, showing good
attacking play and improving is
positional play also.
Into midfield, the return of Jonny down
the right brought YM more attacking
threat, and with Ronaldo-esque skills
Jonny made mincemeat of the Hepworth
full back. Baz was typically strong in
the centre and worked well with Joe. Joe
showed his usual determination and
effort and produced some really good
passes and important challenges. CJ down
the left was tireless and was causing
havoc for the Hepworth full back, easily
taking the ball around him.
Up front Tom and Liam worked well
together. Liam was his usual self,
working all over the pitch and making
some sublime runs through the defence.
Tom was strong in the role too, with
some great touches and runs throughout.
On the bench Dom came on in the first
half upfront and helped hold the ball up
and supply Tom. Moving back into the
centre of midfield he showed his class
with some great skill and passing. Jack
off the back of his MoM performance last
week showed some good runs and crossing
ability.
We don't want to get too cocky though,
but this week was a much better
performance in terms of effort and
enthusiasm.
Points to consider: Take a touch (we
tell you week in week out, but this
still needs some work!), positional play
(remember where you are playing, and
consider if you need to cover a
team-mates position)
Goals: Tom 2 (extremely spectacular
curled corner!), Baz 2, Dom 1

YMCA "B" 3 Vs BATLEY "B" 5
After last weeks gritty
performance against top of the
league Norristhorpe,
I thought the boys would be up
for the game against Batley.
If they produced half of the
desire and commitment that they
showed against Norristhorpe it
might have been a different
score line.
With the lack of movement from
back to front they looked
sluggish from start to finish.
Some of the lads might have been
tired from a trip to Chelsea,
but that is no excuse for the
lack of passion!
I could go on ranting forever
BUT I WON’T!
There was only one positive
comment about the game that was
new boy Jack who came on and
injected a bit of desire into
the game. Well done Jack!

YMCA"B" 4 Vs
Cumberworth 2
This game looked set to test the YM lads
to the limit. The previous meeting was a
hard fought match with Cumberworth
coming out on top, marginally. Today's
game was no different, being an
extremely physical and hard fought
contest. Starting with the defence, Alex
showed real improvement in decision
making and made some important
challenges and was quick off his line to
stop the attacks. A solid performance
which saw Luke and Dan at the centre
looking ever more comfortable and had
little problems from the opposition
forwards that they couldn't solve. The
full-backs Joel and Jordan also put in
good performances, capitalising on their
efforts from the prior week. In midfield
Dom and Baz both had great games. Dom
made some important challenges in the
middle of the park, whilst his attacking
mind helped bag himself 2 goals and
create other chances. Baz was tireless
as ever, and unfortunately missed a
dubious penalty. However, his efforts
throughout more than made up for it, and
a goal capped the performance off. Tom
also found his role in the centre of
midfield, making some important passes
and challenges, whilst also helping
himself to a goal. The wide men CJ and
Johnny showed their skills again, with
CJ turning the defenders inside out on a
number of occasions and Johnny made some
spirited runs leaving their defence for
dead. Both need to think about pacing
themselves, as they can't be sprinting
about for 60 ins without getting
exhausted!! Joeseph returned to action
this week and put some real effort in,
causing problems down the right hand
side and also making some important
passes in the middle. Up front Niall
showed more improvement with some good
hold up play and some important headers.
Liam was tireless again, and was unlucky
not to get himself on the scoresheet.
A spirited and hard fought victory for
the team, lets hope we can continue to
get better and get up to the standard we
all know the boys are capable of.
Goals: Dom 2, Tom, Baz

YMCA "B" 6 Vs Kexborough 3
After an extended break over the
festive period, YM returned with a
dogged win over much improved
Kexborough. A slow start to the game
saw the 11 man team take a while to
settle in, perhaps it was the effect
of food and rest over Christmas, or
was it the realisation that nobody
would get a rest due to the lack of
subs!
While the passing and movement left
a lot to be desired, there were some
good points brought out. Dan and
Luke are looking even more solid at
the back, starting to resemble Vidic
and Ferdinand. It was Luke's solid
performance, and his constant effort
that saw him win man of the match.
Joel covered both full back
positions and so did Jordan, with
both giving a sterling effort and
stopping the Kexborough attacks.
In midfield the ever present Baz was
up to his usual standard, with
Johnny and CJ showing some excellent
runs. Dom again was solid and his
attacking mind helped create some of
the goals.
Up front Niall had a good game, with
some solid play, holding the ball
for Liam and almost getting himself
on the scoresheet. Liam was
excellent again, easily running
through the opposition defence to
bag himself a couple of goals.
In net, Alex made a few good saves,
and is starting to become much
louder in directing his defence.
Room to improve, but if we can play
poorly and still win then there
should be plenty more to come!
YMCA "A" 11 Vs Batley "B" 2 - Cup
A
solid performance with many outstanding
performances especially from Joe & Niall
both of whom returned after holidays. A
poor & sloppy start when the ball was
given away far too often was followed by
some flowing football and clinical
finishing. In goals George had little to
do but when called upon responded well
with good distribution. Joe had a superb
game and the more he plays the better he
becomes. Comfortable on the ball and
happy to go forward Joe was fantastic.
Ben in the centre was solid as usual had
he is another who grows in stature each
game. Harry had another very good game
and covered well when needed to. Missing
Fraser allowed James to drop into a
holding role. Even though he didn't have
is best game was still solid in the
tackle and prompted the lads to attack.
Jake on the right started well but on
too many occasions came in field losing YM the width. His work rate made up for
the minor mistakes and in the 2nd half
playing on the left looked far happier
when he could cut in from the wing. Jake
L & Aidan were fantastic with Jake
scoring a fantastic hattrick and one
from a set piece which put a smile on
the coaches faces. Aidan's work rate was
first class had drove forward all the
time. Another solid game. Kyle had a
solid in unspectacular game but still
made chance after chance for the
forwards. Up front Marley looked sharp
and along with Tom could easily have had
3 or 4 goal each. Elliott was back to
his best after a couple of weeks
subbing. Every time he got the ball he
looked dangerous and he too scored three
good goals. Niall returning from holiday
looked sharp and alert making
chances galore for his team-mates.
Fraser came on for the 2nd half and
again looked confident on the ball and
he too also nearly scored from a set
piece.
A
good performance if not spectacular
HARTSHEAD "A" 1 Vs YMCA "A" 6
A
very solid performance from an under
strength team. Players missing through
holidays & sickness meant that we only
had one sub. With Jake L playing an
unaccustomed role at fullback in the
absence of Joe YM took a while to adjust
and looked well out of sorts against a
determined team. Once YM got to grips
with the pitch and new formation they
quickly took charge of the match scoring
at regular intervals.
George produced one very good save to
deny the home team but other than that
was pretty much redundant. Ben, Jake &
Harry were only tested on a few
occasions and with all of them covering
for each other never really looked in
trouble. Harry was magnificent with
tackles and covering. Ben was his usual
self tackling and distributing well.
Jake R started on the right in place of
Elliott and produced strong runs but
lacked composure with his finishing. In
the centre Aidan & James drove their
team forward but both lacked a little
quality in their passing at times. On
the left Kyle struggled at times with
the size of the pitch and even more so
with the length of grass!!! but tricked
his way past his marker on numerous
times. Marley was back to his best with
some electric pace and brilliant
finishing. Tom, who was under the weather
had another good game and could have had
a few goals. Elliott who started as sub
was back to his best with some surging
runs and excellent tackling.
MOM: Harry & Marley
Scorers: Aidan(2), Elliott(2), Marley, &
Tom
YMCA "A 12 vs KIRKHEATON 1
A
long lay off from playing showed in
places especially believe it or not in
our finishing!! Playing up hill in the
1st half YM made some excellent defence
splitting passes and created chance
after chance which were wasted. In
defence Ben, Joe & Harry looked solid
against the visitors, with both full
backs overlapping at every opportunity
and with the ever alert George in goal
who was called upon on only a couple of
occasions. One of which he dealt
superbly well with. Fraser had a solid
game making some great tackles and
headers. In midfield Elliott, who had a
quiet game (late night Saturday???)
still linked well on occasions. James
and Jake continue to form a solid
partnership in the centre with both now
expressing their ability and with Kyle
on the left, who was back to his best
made chances galore for the forwards who
should have had more goals between them.
Aidan showed good skills and made
some very good support runs for the
forwards. Jake R, Marley & Tom H were
all guilty of missing chances as YM
wanted to score Arsenal goals by passing
the ball into the net. In Kathryn's
words "shoot boys shoot!!!" New boy
Thomas Dunne scored a super hat trick
and gave the coaches plenty to think
about for team selection for the
forthcoming games. Marley caused
problems all the time when he was
on the pitch with his pace but too often
lacked a calm finish. Tom did the skill
of the day with a little around the
corner pass for Tom D to score. Jake R
looked sharp after missing numerous
weeks through injury.
A
solid yet a rusty performance

YMCA "A" 4 Vs DEWSBURY RANGERS "A"0
A
solid if unspectacular performance
against 4th placed Dewsbury Rangers. YM
played up the hill in the 1st half and
looked solid in all areas of the pitch.
George in goals had a few hair raising
moments but generally dealt with
everything the visitors threw at him. In
defence Joe, Ben & Harry dealt well with
some good movement from Dewsbury
especially at corners. In the middle
Fraser broke the play up well but was
sometimes let down by poor distribution.
He certainly wasn't let down by the
quality of his strike from 25 yards
however which flew into the corner
giving YM a deserved lead midway through
the 1st half. Elliott had a
relatively quiet game on the right
struggling to get the better of his
marker at times but was unlucky not to
score three times being let down with
his finishing. James & Jake had another
excellent game in the centre tackling
everything that moved with Jake having
another accomplished game . The 2 are
starting to build up a good
understanding. James scored another long
distance free kick in the second half.
Aidan started on the left and made some
surging runs into the opponents half and
threatened every time he got the ball
more so when he switched wings to the
right. Marley and Niall started up front
with Marley causing chaos when given the
chance to run at his marker. Niall had 2
good opportunities but unfortunately
couldn't convert them. Kyle went on for
Aidan and showed some good skills and
tried in vein to force inroads into the
Dewsbury defence, Tom however made some
excellent runs and looked sharp. In the
2nd half Dewsbury pushed hard and an
excellent spell of handling and
positional play by George kept the
visitors goalless thus earning his first
MOM award.
DALTON DYNAMOES "B" 6 Vs YMCA "B" 3
A
disappointing score line overwhelms what
was a gusty and strong performance by YM.
The team were a little slow to get going
in the first half, perhaps the cold
weather taking effect. Dalton
capitalised on this with a couple of
well taken goals. However, a lifeline
was thrown to YM in the form of Lucas
nipping in at the back post, finishing
what was an excellent move by YM. The
second half was much improved, with the
back 4 of Dan, Luke, Jordan and Johnny
all giving what was one of their best
performances so far with some solid
tacking and well made decisions. Alex in
goals looked good, and is developing
each game, the goalkicks are getting
longer! A depleted midfield saw Lucas
thrown onto the wing, with Baz and Joe
in the centre and Joel on the right. A
typically enthusiastic performance by
Baz, which encouraged his fellow
midfielders to step up their game. An
unfortunate incident saw the ball cannon
off Baz into the YM net, but undefeated
he put even more effort into the game
and was rewarded by a sublime free kick.
The stikeforce of Liam, Alex and Niall
all performed well again, creating a
number of chances that unfortunately
didn't make the back of the net, they
will one day!
Goals: Lucas, Liam, Baz
Men of the Match: Luke, Baz and Johnny.
YMCA 7 Vs 3D DYNAMOES 0 (Minors Cup)
Freezing cold conditions, sleet and a
little snow couldn't stop the lads from
progressing to the next round of the
Minor's Cup. George had even less than
normal to do but what he did do was done
very well. A change of defence made no
real difference with Ben, Fraser & Harry
all again looking solid with Ben raiding
down the wing to support the impressive
Ellliot at every opportunity. James
grabbed his first hat trick of the
season including a special from 25yards.
Jake & Aidan again ran the midfield but
both eventually suffered from the cold
weather but were strong enough to go
back on to give their team mates a
break. Up front Marley had an unusually
quiet game( one of very few this
season.). Tom played some fantastic
balls to the wingers had was unlucky not
to get a hat trick. Niall had a great
game constantly battling for the ball
and doing what Niall does best - causing
a nuisance of himself. Kyle & Joe came
on at half time and both looked bright
defending and attacking well.
Freezing cold and very difficult to play
good football
YMCA "B" 5 Vs Hepworth "B" 1
Well i have let the side
down this week, i was so
cold i couldn't even take my
gloves off so all i wrote on
my notepad was Alex M x 2,
Tom, CJ, Joseph and Hepworth
1!!!!!!!!!! All in all a
really good game but it was
freezing and the boys played
so well to say that it was
so cold.
Niall has improved 100%
and i think he just needs a
goal to boost the
confidence, but a well
deserved man of the match.
This is probably my last
match report as i believe
that Colin will sack me as i
did a poor job this week.
Well done lads , keep
getting them points and
climbing that league.
Final score a well
deserved 5-1
CLIFTON RANGERS "A" 1 Vs YMCA "A" 5
A
mixed performance from the lads. In the
1st half players were sloppy with their
passing and support play against a
plucky Rangers side who had been
comprehensively beaten on two previous
occasions. A fortuitist goal gave the
home side a lead in the 1st half but YM
still didn't get into their stride until
the introduction of all three subs.
In
goals George had little to do in either
half but was left helpless with a
Clifton shot. Joe, Harry & Fraser played
to deep allowing midfield to become
overrun. In midfield Aidan, Jake & Kyle
all looked jaded and if it had not been
for MOM Jake Lodge YM could have been
further behind. His endless tackling.
James playing further forward looked
lost at times but when reverting back to
his customary position settled well. Tom
& Niall both started well upfront and
had numerous chances to wrap the game
up. With the introduction of Marley,
Elliott & Ben and a reshape of positions
YM took control and scored a good goal
with some excellent play between Tom &
Marley. Reverting back to their normal
formation YM looked solid and scored
further goals. In the 2nd half YM looked
solid at the back and were seldom
pressured. Fraser playing in his usual
position looked sharp. James, Aidan,
Kyle & Jake looked far more assured with
the regular formation and with Elliott
causing his marker to foul him at almost
every opportunity YM took charge. Marley
again caused chaos in the defence with
his pace. Tom, Niall and Jake R all
scored good goals. The score was a fair
result but YM can't afford to be asleep
at the start of games.
Coaches comment: Don't change
formations!!!!
YMCA "B" 1 Vs HOWDEN CLOUGH "A"
4
The lads came out of the
changing rooms full of
confidence on the back
of two very good
performances the weeks
before.
From the kick off they soon
got into their stride with
some good passing from
defence to midfield.
In defence Jordan & Daniel
put in good tackles and made
it hard for the Howden
Clough forwards.
Both full backs Joel & Lucas
improve with every game
played and covered well when
called upon. In midfield Baz
& new partner for the first
half Luke controlled most of
the centre with good tackles
& passes to the wing men of
Joe on the right who made
some lovely runs down the
wing only to find a
resilient defence in front
of him. Dominic on the left
wing found it hard to get
into the game from the
start. Striker Nial started
the game lively but soon
found it hard to keep up
with the pace. Liam looked
lively as always trying to
link with the wing men.
With the score 0-0 this
promoted a change
before half time Tom came on
for Nial up front with
immediate affect pestering
the defence with his
strength and earned a free
kick 5 yards out side the
box.Up stepped Dominic with
a sweet strike 1-0.
Unfortunately After a lapse
of concentration in defence
after a barrage of chances
from Howden Clough we were
unable to stop them from
scoring before the half time
whistle.
In the second half the lads
came out fighting again with
CJ on the left & Jonny on
the right both looked lively
using the width of the pitch
to good effect. Dominic in
the centre looked more at
home, along side Baz. Then
from a goal kick we conceded
a sloppy goal,which gave
Howden Clough a spring in
their step.
As the second half went
on the lads became more and
more tired after a long
spell of pressure. If not
for Man Of The Match Alex in
goal who had his best
commanding performance I
have seen so far, to go
along with his shot stopping
and catching the lads would
of been looking at a bigger
score line than 1-4.
Goals:
Dom 1 (Super Strike)
MOM: Alex S (well deserved)
(Chin up boys a good
performance against a
Division 2 A-Team.)
YMCA 4 Vs PENISTONE 0
An
all round excellent performance after
last week's rocky performance. In goals
George looked assured saving superbly
when Penistone had their only chance. In
defence Fraser slotted into the space
vacated by skipper Ben and never looked
in danger of being beaten. Harry & Joe
were brilliant and composed linking
excellently with the wide players. James
took over from Fraser in the "hole" and
ran men of the match Kyle & Jake L very
close for the award. Aidan & Jake L had
excellent games and both are now
learning how to play their positions.
Elliott again tormented the vistiors
each time he got the ball. On the left
Kyle was simply superb passing and
moving at every opportunity. Up front YM
caused panic everytime they got the
ball. Niall, Tom, Marlry & Jake all had
freedom to express themselves creating
chance after chance for their teammates
Massive improvement in performance and
attitude WELL DONE
BATLEY 1 Vs YMCA "B" 4
This is one of my favorite matches his
season, not only because my dad won the
raffle again but because the lads
improvement is just amazing.
It started off with and early shot form
Tom that was saved by the Batley
keeper, Tom then went on to do a
brilliant run and shot but again the
keeper
was spot on with the save, but little
did the keeper know that goal lerch Dom
was there to tap in YM's first goal. 1-0
after 5 minutes, lads this is what us
parents like!!!!!!.
Batley then soon got hold of the ball
and did a bit of pushing and shoving and
maybe a little football only to be
denied by super Alex in goal (he gets
better
every week!!!) . The lines man on the
other side to us parents was totally
flag
happy and everytime YM were on the run
yes you got it the flag went up for
offside, some of them were off side but
most weren't. 20 MIns into the game and
Baz had a blast at goal that again
tested the Batley keeper. Johnny then
set
off down the wing (dont know what he has
for breakfast??) light a bolt of
lightning forcing a corner from our
opponants, which tom took and curled in
a
beauty, Liam was there only to be denied
by the keeper again but this time he
made sure that he was there himself for
the tap in. 2- 0. Batley then attacked
for the first time really in the game,
but our defence of Luke , Lucas , Jonny,
Jordan and Daniel had it sorted, Daniel
was there to stop Batley from scoring
with his goal line clearence.
2nd Half.
Batley came on in the second half
looking the better team but only for 5
minutes, But Joe and CJ just outclassed
them with there brilliant link up play
down the wing their contributions were
fantastic, Joel and niall then came on,
Joel staying strong in defence whilst
Niall was attacking up front and again a
player that i have noticed that is
improving so much . Jordan then cam on
and
again our defence really couldnt be
faulted, our wing men were brilliant
also.
Batley then had a throw in and Joels dad
(our linesman) flagged for offside
only to be told by our opponants that
'you cant have an offside from a throw
in!!!!!' well i never new that? , the
ref then decided that he would have a
shout also at Joels dad that brought
some tension to the match (come on ref
its
only a game of kids football!!!!!!)
Baz then decided to try his luck and
spanked the ball from over 20 yards that
flew into the Batley goal.
Batley dragged a goal back but i cant
remember how they scored it (its not on
my notes!!!!) sorry.
Jonny and Liam then showed their class
down the wing they managed to skip and
dance past the Batley defence to set up
Tom for a brilliangt goal. 4-1, The ref
then gave Batley a penelty i am not sure
what for as none of us saw what had
happened but anyways we didnt care as we
knew our super Alexs would save it,
and he did!!!!!
The final score was 4-1 and well
deserved, you make us all so proud and a
special mention to the man of the match
Daniel, you were brilliant and i think
that every parent agreed that you were
the man of the match.
Well done lads, cant wait for next
week!!!!!.
Col, chabge what you need to. Hope this
is ok
Lynette
SKELMANTHORPE "A" 1 Vs YMCA"A" 2
A
definite game of two halves. In the
first half YM were very sloppy and slow
to the ball and against a stronger team
would have been dead and buried at half
time. Sloppy passing, lack of movement,
poor communication all contributed to a
very below par performance. Only mom
Aidan and James P showed any sort of
determination to break down their
opponents. In the second half a much
improved display brought chance after
chance with the post being hit three
times. YM pressed hard with the defence
looking much more solid and were robbed
a goal by a strange offside decision
from the referee. Marley looked far
sharper in the 2nd half and continually
had the beating of his marker. Elliott
having a rare quiet game still caused
trouble down the right and linked well
with Joe who had a solid 2nd half.. Jake
& Aidan played much better than in
previous matches and Niall was at his
predatory best up front. Kyle linked
with Marley down the left and was
regularly joined by Harry who bombed
forward when he could. Fraser played
well after coming on and he too was
unlucky not to score even though his dad
said he thought he was converting a
try!! Tom played some lovely through
balls but often failed to convert good
opportunities. George had another
quiet game in goals and took some very
good catches and along with good
distribution looked assured and
confident. Pleasing to see was Ben being
prepared to show composure when under
pressure even though he may have showed
a little too much at times.
All in all a good result but et another
instance when teams will not lie down
and die for us.
MOM Aidan
YMCA "B" 8 Vs SKELMANTHORPE "B" 0
A solid and entertaining performance by
YM saw the team finish off Skelmenthorpe
in style. 2 goals from Dom, 2 from Liam
and goals from Johnny, CJ, Joseph and a
stunner from Tom made up the scoreline.
The whole team rose to the occasion,
with the defensive line of Jordan, Dan,
Lucas and Luke looking impressive, and
supported their midfield with some good
passing and running. Baz in his familiar
holding role played to his usual high
standards and was rarely seen to be
stood even remotely still! Joseph in an
alternative role on the right wing
performed well with some well aimed
crosses, and Joel showed good pace also
whilst on the wing. CJ and Dom combined
well on the left and played well off
each other with some probing runs.
Johnny in the centre for a change worked
hard as always and linked up well with
the boys on the right wing. Tom, Niall
and Liam upfront always looked
dangerous, with Liam taking on the
defence with great skill and supporting
his midfield throughout the match. Tom
showed good pace and strength and his
corner kicks caused the visiting defence
some real problems, and a free kick that
even David Beckham would be proud of
capped off a great game. Niall showed
great strength upfront, holding up the
ball and winning a number of headers to
frustrate Skelmenthorpe, a greatly
improved performance!
Goals: Dom 2, Liam 2, Johnny, CJ,
Joseph, Tom
MoM: The team!
YMCA"A" 2 Vs WYKE WANDERERS "A" 3
Two well matched sides fought out a 5
goal thriller with the visitors coming
out on top. YM started very strongly and
took a deserved lead through Elliott W.
YM should have put the game beyond doubt
in the first half but conceded a sloppy
goal on the stroke of half time. George
in goal made a good save and distributed
the ball well to his defenders. In
defence Joe, Ben & Harry were solid and
pressed forward at every opportunity.
Fraser had another solid game in the
centre and won more than his fair share
of headers. Elliott started brilliantly
causing the visitors numerous problems.
In the centre James got to grips with
Wyke midfield pair and should have
possibly scored when an
opportunity came for his left foot.
Aidan struggled to start with but the
longer the game went on the more
influential he become with some strong
runs. Jake battled hard but was guilty
of ball watching to many times but
nevertheless prompted forward runs for
his forwards. Kyle back in the 1st team
showed some glimpses of the form we all
know he can produce and linked well with
Harry down the left. Upfront Tom &
Marley linked well and maybe should have
had 3 goals by halftime. Niall battled
hard against a tough defence but didn't
really get in the positions to score.
Coaches view: A disappointing result but
a good display and proof that teams wont
lie down for us and also that players
need to listen to their instructions
MOM: After a change of heart I have
awarded it to Ben
CUMBERWORTH 5 Vs YMCA 4
Things didn’t bode well
when the writer spent
half an hour before the
game hunting for a
sandwich shop when there
was one next to the
pitch! There were
changes to the team this
week with two players
absent due to half term
holidays, Liam being
displaced from the 1st
team by Kyle’s excellent
form of late and new lad
Tom D was making his
debut.
We started with a 4
4
2 formation playing down
hill in the first half
but the team started
sluggishly duplicating
the hangovers most of
the watching parents had
from the fund raising
events of the previous
night.
Cumberworth
were soon out of the
blocks and a good move
up the left wing
produced the first goal
of the game are 5
minutes with a crisp
shot low to Alex’s
right.
Up front Liam was
receiving plenty of the
ball
but tended to hang on to
it too long instead of
spreading it wide to our
wingers CJ and Johnny.
In midfield new lad Tom
and Luke were getting
more into the game with
neat passing moves that
got the ball wide.
In defence Dan was
playing very well but
Jordan was struggling in
his new role as centre
half.
Both full backs Joel and
Lucas were hesitant in
the tackle at times.
We nearly went two goals
down when Lucas failed
to clear his lines and
the cross into the box
eluded Jordan but the
referee blew for
offside. Phew!
We won our first corner
after 15 minutes from
good work by Johnny and
his resulting cross
found Liam in the six
yard box who calmly beat
the keeper to bring us
level.
The game opened up after
we equalised and a quick
free kick on the half
way line by Tom put Liam
through on goal but his
shot hit the post and
was cleared for a
corner.
At the other end
Cumberworth
brought another fine
save from Alex who is a
great shot stopper.
Then disaster! A tame
shot looked no problem
for Alex after his
earlier heroics but the
ball bounced in front of
him and looped over his
right shoulder!
Down the other end CJ
who was having a quite
game for his standards
broke clear and his
first time shot was well
saved.
Our equaliser after 25
minutes was a carbon
copy of our first with a
cross from Johnny
finding Liam in the
right place to get his
and our second goal of
the game.
We ended the half on the
attack winning a string
of corners but could not
convert the pressure
into goals.
Half time 2
2.
Niall came on for Jordan
for the second half.
Straight from the
kickoff the ball
was played up to Liam
who beat two men with
great skill before
smacking a shot in for
his well deserved
hatrick.
YMCA
in the lead for the
first time.
Tom G was now playing
some great cross field
balls one of which found
CJ who had a great
chance to extend our
lead but his shot was
high and wide.
Cumberworth
now started to use the
slope to their advantage
attacking in numbers and
forcing our defence
back.
Alex made a great save
from one of these
attacks but the ball
broke loose and as was
the case for most of
this match they got to
the loose ball first and
scored a great goal with
a shot that went in off
the underside of the
bar.
3 3.
It was like the Alamo
now with wave after wave
of attack but our
defence did well to
clear but when they did
the ball came straight
back as Niall was unable
to get into the game and
hold the ball up for us
up front.
Joe gave away a free
kick 20 yards out which
was fired into the
bottom corner to take
the lead for
Cumberworth.
4 3.
Goal number 5 soon
followed with a good
shot to Alex’s right.
A rare attack by the
YMCA found Johnny the
provider again
who’s cross cum
shot was palmed out be
the keeper into the
grateful path of poacher
Liam who knocked in his
fourth goal of the game.
Colin and James then
swapped Niall and Jordan
hoping that we could
hold the ball up
up
front and give our
defence a breather.
Luke played a lovely
ball up the left wing to
find Tom G in space.
Could this be a dream
debut for the lad
scoring the equaliser?
Unfortunately not there
defender made a great
last ditch tackle to
knock the ball out for a
corner.
The resulting corner
found
it’s
way to Johnny who’s shot
was well saved.
An injury to
alex
in goal meant he could
not continue so Niall
came back on in goals
for the last few minutes
and he was kept busy
with
Cumberworth
ending the game on the
attack.
